Congratulations to the following IAS members who were recently recognized with the following IEEE awards.

The IEEE Richard Harold Kaufmann Award- recognizes outstanding contributions in industrial systems engineering, sponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications Society was awarded to Charles John Mozina (LFIEEE).   Citation: “For contributions to the electrical protection of synchronous generators.”

The IEEE Nikola Tesla Award- recognizes outstanding contributions to the generation and utilization of electric power – sponsored by the The Grainger Foundation and the IEEE Power & Energy Society was awarded to Ion Gheorghe Boldea (LFIEEE).  Citation: “For contributions to the design and control of rotating and linear electric machines for industry applications.”

IEEE Standard 11-2006(R) for Rotating Electric Machinery for Rail and Road Vehicles  -  Need for volunteers

Standard IEEE std-11 is up for revision and update.  It was first developed when the only traction motors where large DC or induction machines for trains and ships, and significant work is needed to include smaller automotive motors, as well as permanent magnet machines.  The IAS Electric Machines Committee is planning to work with the PES Electric Machines Committee, the current home for this standard.  Together IAS and PES are looking for additional members to revise and update this standard, at a crucial time for the transportation industry.  If interested or if you have questions, contact Emmanuel Agamloh at:  eagamloh@advancedenergy.org.

Congratulations to Robert D. Lorenz recipient of the 2014 IEEE Richard Harold Kaufman Award “For contributions to the development of methodologies and sensors for precision control of electric motor drives and coordinated drive systems.”

Congratulations to Frede Blaabjerg recipient of the 2014 IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award “For contributions to power electronics in renewable energy and adjustable speed drives.”

Congratulations to Hamid A. Toliyat recipient of the 2014 IEEE Nikola Tesla Award “For contributions to the design, analysis, and control of fault-tolerant multiphase electric machines.”

Congratulations to Linos J. Jacovides recipient of the 2014 IEEE Transportation Technologies Award “For pioneering contributions to the analysis and design of electromechanical systems and power electronics for transportation applications.”
