Announcing the IAS 50th Anniversary -Young Engineers Travel Grant Program at the I&CPS2015 Technical Conference 

In the spirit of celebrating IAS 50th Anniversary we have announced the IAS Anniversary Travel Grant for Young Engineers for I&CPS2015 Technical Conference – May 5-8, 2015, Calgary, AB, Canada. Please go to the Conference Web Site (http://sites.ieee.org/icps2015/) for more information. 

Submissions must be received by March 20th, 2015. 

Details on how to apply to the Program can be found on the I&CPS 2015 Web site (This program is sponsored by the Industry Applications Society (IAS) of IEEE. 

Program Details: 

  • The Travel Grant Program will support up to six (6) Young Engineers to attend the I&CPS 2015 Technical Conference in Calgary.
  • Expenses, up to $1000USD per recipient, will be reimbursed after the Conference, upon submission of an expense report with supporting receipts.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by email, by March 27, 2015.

 

Program Eligibility:

  • Must be an IEEE higher-grade member (all grades except Student) in good standing, at the date of application.
  • Must be an IAS member in good standing, at the date of application.
  • Must have graduated from a 4-year (or more) college-/university-level undergraduate program after Jan 1, 2010. 

Program Selection Criteria: 

Applications will be evaluated on the following basis:

  • Understanding of I&CPS Activities including the development and revision of Industry Recommended Practices, Standards and understanding of IAS Activities in general.
  • Commitment to participate in I&CPS 2015 Conference Activities and IAS 50th Anniversary Celebration during the Conference.
  • Enforce diversity: i.e. preference will be given to candidates from different work locations, different industries and institutions and different cities.

 

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.  All applications must include the following:

  • Applicant’s Full Name, Contact Information (including email address), Company Affiliation, and IEEE Membership Number.
  • A statement (maximum 300 words), explaining why the applicant is interested to attend I&CPS 2015, what the candidate knows about IAS and I&CPS and their activities and how the applicant would benefit from the travel grant.

Applications must be submitted by email to Mr. Shan Pandher shan.pandher@ieee.org, and shall be received no later than 6pm MDT (UTC -6:00) on March 20, 2015.

Congratulations to the following IAS members who were recently recognized with the following IEEE awards.

 

The IEEE Richard Harold Kaufmann Award- recognizes outstanding contributions in industrial systems engineering, sponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications Society was awarded to Charles John Mozina (LFIEEE).   Citation: “For contributions to the electrical protection of synchronous generators.”

 

The IEEE Nikola Tesla Award- recognizes outstanding contributions to the generation and utilization of electric power – sponsored by the The Grainger Foundation and the IEEE Power & Energy Society was awarded to Ion Gheorghe Boldea (LFIEEE).  Citation: “For contributions to the design and control of rotating and linear electric machines for industry applications.”

 


IEEE Standard 11-2006(R) for Rotating Electric Machinery for Rail and Road Vehicles  -  Need for volunteers

 

Standard IEEE std-11 is up for revision and update.  It was first developed when the only traction motors where large DC or induction machines for trains and ships, and significant work is needed to include smaller automotive motors, as well as permanent magnet machines.  The IAS Electric Machines Committee is planning to work with the PES Electric Machines Committee, the current home for this standard.  Together IAS and PES are looking for additional members to revise and update this standard, at a crucial time for the transportation industry.  If interested or if you have questions, contact Emmanuel Agamloh at:  eagamloh@advancedenergy.org.
