Abstract: The Industry Applications Society (IAS) is a transnational organization interested in the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical and electronic engineering; promotion of safe, reliable and economic installations; creation of engineering standards and recommended practices; and the professional development of its membership. In conjunction with the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA), the Standards Committee of the IAS has developed key standards including arc-flash hazard calculations, requirements for trace heating, squirrel cage motors, and the Color Books.

This webinar will focus on the following topics:

·  The scope of the IAS organization, as well as the available resources and opportunities within the IAS for research enhancement and career development

·  The standards development process, using IEEE 1584™-2018, IEEE Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations, one of the most recognized standards sponsored by the IAS, as an example

·  Active standards projects ranging from developing guidelines for the continuous thermal monitoring of switchgear and motor control centers to drafting recommended practices for conducting transient stability studies and how to get involved
