IAS Day is an annual global celebration of the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS), held during the second week of October to commemorate a significant milestone in the Society’s history. The celebration honors the 7th Annual Meeting, held on October 9–12, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which was the first technical conference held during the year in which IAS officially became an IEEE Society.
IAS Day provides an opportunity for members, chapters, industry partners, students, and professionals around the world to come together, celebrate the impact and contributions of the IAS, and highlight the technologies, innovations, and communities that continue to advance industry applications. Through local and global activities throughout IAS Day Week, we celebrate our shared history while looking toward the future of industry, technology, and engineering applications.

Your IAS Day events provide opportunities to Connect, Learn, Innovate, and Create Impact. Chapters can organize engaging activities that bring members together through networking events, chapter receptions, and social gatherings; expand knowledge through technical workshops, webinars, expert panels, research seminars, and laboratory tours; inspire innovation through hackathons, competitions, and industry-driven engineering challenges; and demonstrate the societal value of IAS through humanitarian projects, community outreach, STEM activities, and industry visits. "IAS Day Around the World" Capture the Celebration Photo Contest (for Chapters)
Show us how IEEE IAS members around the world celebrate IAS Day! The IAS Day Around the World: Capture the Celebration Photo Contest invites IAS Chapters to submit their best photograph capturing the spirit, energy, and community of their IAS Day celebration. From technical events and industry engagement to student activities and social gatherings, we want to see the people and moments that make IAS Day special in communities around the globe. Best winning photographs will be selected in each region based on its creativity, visual impact, representation of the IAS community, and ability to capture the spirit of IAS Day.
Contest Rules
- One Submission per Chapter: Each IAS Chapter may submit one official photograph.
- IAS Day activity: The photograph must have been taken during the official IAS Day Week period.
- Member focused: The photograph should feature IAS members, students, industry professionals, volunteers, or other participants.
- IAS Day branding: The photograph must visibly include IAS Day branding, such as the official IAS Day logo, banner, backdrop, signage, presentation slide, or other approved IAS Day materials.
- Original photograph: The submitting Chapter must have the right to submit the photograph and authorize its use by IEEE IAS.
- Publication permission: The Chapter is responsible for obtaining appropriate permission from individuals appearing in the photograph for its publication and use by IEEE IAS.
- High resolution: Photographs should be submitted in high resolution and suitable for digital and print publication.
- Authentic celebration: Photographs should represent a genuine IAS Day activity and should not be digitally altered in a way that misrepresents the event.
Submission Requirements
Each Chapter should submit:
- One high-resolution photograph in JPG or PNG format.
- Chapter name and geographic location (chapter name, city, country, and IEEE Region).
- Event/activity name possibly shown in the photograph.
- Date of the IAS Day activity.
- A short description of the event (maximum 300 words) describing the event, participants statistics, and the moment captured.
- Photographer’s name, if applicable.
- Confirmation that publication permissions have been obtained from individuals appearing in the photograph.
- Confirmation that the Chapter has permission to submit and authorize IEEE IAS to use the photograph for IAS Day promotional, educational, and communication purposes.
Contest Prizes
To recognize and celebrate the creativity, engagement, and global spirit of IEEE IAS Day, the IAS Day Committee will select the following award winners:
- Best IAS Day Photo Award (per IEEE region) with a cash prize of $400 awarded to a chapter with a photograph that best captures the spirit, impact, and global celebration of IAS Day.
- Second Best IAS Day Photo Award (per IEEE region) with a cash prize of $200 awarded to a chapter with the photograph receiving the second-highest recognition from the IAS Day Committee.
- People’s Choice IAS Day Photo Award with a cash prize of $400 awarded to a chapter with the photograph receiving the highest number of votes through an online community voting.
Winning and selected photographs will be featured across IEEE IAS websites, social media channels, publications, and future IAS Day promotional materials, providing chapters and members with an opportunity to showcase their IAS Day celebrations to the global IAS community.

"Why IAS Matters" 60-Second Video Contest (for Chapters)
In 60 seconds, tell us why IAS matters to you. Don’t tell us what IAS does. Show us why IAS matters. The “Why IAS Matters” 60-Second Video Contest invites IEEE IAS Chapters around the world to share a powerful, creative, and personal story about what IAS means to them. Whether IAS helped launch a career, provided a mentor, created lifelong professional connections, opened doors to industry, supported a student’s journey, or simply created a community where people belong: we want to hear your story.
The contest is open to all IAS chapters, highlighting stories of students, young professionals, chapter members, industry professionals, volunteers, and senior members. Videos may take any creative form, from heartfelt personal stories and interviews to animation, demonstrations, humor, skits, or completely unexpected ideas. You have 60 seconds. Make every second matter.
Contest Rules
- One submission per Chapter: Each IAS Chapter may submit one official video entry.
- 60-Second Limit: Each video must be no longer than 60 seconds. Videos exceeding 60 seconds may be disqualified.
- Clear message: The video should communicate a clear and compelling message about why IAS matters, rather than simply describing what IAS does.
- Personal & authentic: Videos should reflect a genuine experience, perspective, or story connected to IEEE IAS.
- Open to all IAS Chapters: Submissions may feature students, young professionals, industry professionals, academics, volunteers, chapter leaders, and senior members.
- Any language: Videos may be submitted in any language. Videos that are not primarily in English must include English subtitles or captions.
- Any creative format: Talking-head videos, interviews, animation, storytelling, demonstrations, humor, skits, voiceovers, creative visuals, or other formats are welcome.
- Original content: The submitting Chapter or participant must have the rights and permissions necessary to submit the video and authorize IEEE IAS to use it.
- Publication permission: The submitter is responsible for obtaining appropriate permission from individuals appearing in the video for its publication and use by IEEE IAS.
- Appropriate content: Videos should be professional and appropriate for publication through IEEE IAS communication channels.
- No misrepresentation: Videos should authentically represent the participant’s experience with IAS and should not contain misleading or fabricated claims.

Remember: Don’t tell us what IAS does. Show us why IAS matters. A great video doesn’t need to explain everything about IAS. It needs to make us feel, understand, or see the difference IAS makes in people’s lives.
Submission Requirements
Each Chapter should submit:
- One video in MP4 or MOV format.
- Maximum duration: 60 seconds.
- Recommended orientation: 16:9 (landscape) or 9:16 (vertical).
- A short and engaging video title.
- Participant’s name(s) and IEEE affiliation.
- IEEE IAS Chapter/Section, if applicable.
- City, country, and IEEE Region.
- A brief description of the video explaining the story, message, or experience being presented.
- English subtitles/captions for videos not primarily in English.
- Confirmation that appropriate publication permissions have been obtained from individuals appearing in the video.
- Confirmation that the Chapter/participant has permission to submit the video and authorize IEEE IAS to use the video for promotional, educational, communication, and related Society purposes.
Contest Prizes
