The rapid expansion of renewable energy in Australia is reshaping the power system and introducing increasingly complex grid integration challenges. This webinar presents a structured overview of the Australian grid connection process, with a focus on Generator Performance Standards (GPS) compliance and evolving technical expectations.
The session will walk through the full grid connection lifecycle—from early feasibility assessments and connection enquiries to R0/R1/R2 studies, model validation, and commissioning—highlighting key technical risks, common pitfalls, and lessons learned from recent projects. Particular attention will be given to critical performance requirements, including voltage control, system strength interactions, fault ride-through capability, and active/reactive power control.
The webinar will also address emerging challenges associated with weak grids and high penetration of inverter-based resources (IBRs), with emphasis on the growing role of grid-forming (GFM) technologies. Practical insights will be provided on hybrid plant configurations, such as wind combined with GFM BESS, and advanced control strategies to address system strength limitations, enhance stability, and support future grid needs.
